Brothers of the Alpha Chapter at the 2007 Megafair
|
Alpha has had the privilege of being a part of Beta's rich history since its inception August 8, 1839. Since our founding, Alpha has stood proud, as Beta has colonized over 122 chapters and colonies
in the United States and Canada.
In 1999 the chapter underwent a re-colonization, and emerged as one of Beta's first fully-partnered Men of Principle
chapters. The three refounders, Andrew Cleverdon, Miami '00, Brian Fey, Miami '00, and Ben Beshear, Miami
'01, pledged Beta in the spring of 1999. Their first recruitment class of five men brought Alpha's active
roll to eight by the close of the 1999 school year. In the following fall semester, the active roll grew
to 15 with the addition of seven men. The colony participated in its first Inter-Fraternity Council rush
that winter, and recruited a pledge class of 27 men using principles-based recruiting, one of the largest
classes on campus. There has been no looking back since then, as our active roll reached over 100 men in
just four short years.
Since our re-colonization,
our achievements have been highlighted by our reinstatement
at the 161st General Convention of Beta Theta Pi,
six John Reily Knox Awards for Chapter Excellence
(the highest award given to a Beta chapter), five
Sisson Awards, the Most Improved Chapter Award at
Miami University, and Miami's most prestigious Andrew
Herman Memorial Chapter Excellence Award. Beta Theta
Pi has also recognized the Alpha Chapter in the
areas of alumni relations, recruitment, and campus
involvment.
Feel free to browse through this area to learn about
the Men of Principle initiative, our philanthropy,
scholarship, athletics, and campus involvement.
Our commitment to these aspects of fraternal life
has truly strengthened our great brotherhood as
the cornerstone of Alpha.
